How to brew a great cup of coffee with a French press ?

A French press is a heat resistant glass or stainless steel container with a metal filter with a lever. To make coffee, simply place the coarsely ground coffee powder into the preheated French press and pour in hot water at 88-92 degrees Celsius and let it steep for 3-4 minutes, then press the lever and pour out the liquid.

1. First pour hot water into the kettle, preheat the container and metal strainer, then pour out all the hot water and set aside.


2. Grind the coffee beans into coarse granules and pour into the pot (coffee ground to the size of coarse sugar is fine)

It is recommended to use more than 15g of powder in a French press pot, with a brewing ratio of 1:13-1:16 (15g of powder, add 195-240g of water), 1:13 if you want it to be thicker, 1:15 if you want it to be just right, or 1:16 if you want it to be fresher, but of course you can also adjust it according to your own taste.


4. Hot water should be added at different temperatures for different roast levels. It is recommended that light to medium roasted (light brown, brown) coffees are steeped in hot water at around 92°C and dark roasted (dark brown) coffees are steeped in hot water at around 88°C. After adding the hot water, pull the lever to the top of the lid and close it. (Do not press down on the lever yet!!!)


5. The steeping time also varies according to the degree of roasting. The recommended steeping time is around 4 minutes for light to medium roasted coffees and 3 minutes 30 seconds for dark roasted coffees. No need to steep for too long! As the French press is a direct infusion of ground coffee with water, the pleasant flavours are extracted very well in this time period. If you steep it for too long, you will get bad coffee flavours such as woody or burnt bitterness.


6. Press the lever and pour out the coffee at once after the steeping is complete. (If you don't pour out the liquid at once, the coffee particles in the pot will continue to release bad flavours and the coffee in the pot will only get worse and worse ~)


7. Coffee beans produce oil after roasting and the French press pot will have a layer of coffee oil on it after brewing. To clean the French press, dismantle all the metal parts, both the container and the parts, and wash them with detergent and dry them completely before putting them away.
